If you detect moisture on a mirror coming out of the peepholes even if the vent is on then you need to do more to get the moisture out of the kiln. Prop the lid up for the first few hundred degrees about 1/2" with a piece of clay or ceramic.

There are a variety of opinions about this.
It depends on how much moisture is in the clay. If you detect moisture on a mirror coming out of the peepholes even if the vent is on then you need to do more to get the moisture out of the kiln.
Prop the lid up for the first few hundred degrees about 1/2" with a piece of clay or ceramic.
